Finish what you start
I've let this sit for a couple of weeks while I'm on a difficult project at work. I don't have much time or motivation for coding at home right now, and I've let this thing sit for a few weeks in the process. The layout's still not done, the style isn't all together and I don't think it's ready to be released.
However, I figure I should get something out regardless, in whatever state, for a couple of reasons.
It's great motivation to keep going if you've got something out there. You've accomplished something and have got proof, and it kicks off the feedback cycle, allowing you to find out how to improve what you've currently got. The whole point of process management tools like Agile methodology is that what you deliver the first time isn't the entirety of your vision, but is maybe just a small part of it that still works. Your Minimum Viable Product might be minimum, but it sure is viable enough to keep you afloat and give you what you need to do the next bit of it.
I've got big dreams as to what I want to do, but I can't make them all work right away. So I need to be selective in what I can achieve, practical in what I can deliver on, and ready to deliver something, no matter how small or incomplete.
So, in this spirit of frankness, I'm biting the bullet and relaunching this website as it is. The logo's not done, the layout's relatively untested and not all the bits are where I want them to be. But this is my space, it's intended to live and breathe and grow. Better plant that seed.
